SATB a cappella - SEA-006-01 - $2.50/copy3 minutes - M Commissioned by the Festival Choir of Madison, Wisconsin (Spring Revels)
Winner of the Brookline Chorus Composition Competition 2000 (Spring Revels)
This intimate piece is - in Langston Hughes' words - a "sleep song," with a vocal accompaniment built from the syllables of the word "lullaby." The opening vocal texture suggests a sparse, gentle rain; later, voices are layered to create a slumberous, undulating atmosphere. A significant soprano solo opens and closes this song.

April Rain Song
Let the rain kiss you.
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops.
Let the rain sing you a lullaby.
The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk.
The rain makes running pools in the gutter.
The rain plays a little sleep-song on our roof at night -
And I love the rain.

Scorch was designed by the folks who built Sibelius notation software, as a simple way to allow Sibelius scores to become webpages. Despite its slightly ominous name, Scorch is free, is not excessively large (approx. 1 MB), and does not do anything demonic like put you on a mailing list or affect other computer programs. - E.A.
