The elements of music -- form, harmony, melody, rhythm, tempo -- often move in clear, linear directions, progressing forward, marching upwards, growing louder or speeding up on their way to the final destination. The Simple Gravity of Stars departs from this goal driven approach to explore the circular forms of expanding and contracting, rising and falling, harmonies which neither "progress" nor "retrogress" but rather gently revolve around tonal centers. The title, taken from a poem by Neal Bowers, refers to that invisible but steady bond which holds together the separate bodies of stars (and lovers).
